Honda Insight
Weighing in at less than 1,900 pounds the automakers of the Honda Insight have much
to boast about by designing a vehicle that receives the best mileage on the road to date
making it distinct from its competitor the Toyota Prius. In fact, the vehicle may surpass
over 700 miles between fill-ups. The automakers at Honda have used every trick up their
sleeves to develop the Honda Insight to be as efficient as possible.
The Insight has been developed for those who enjoy either manual or automatic transmission.
The Insight comes in a five speed manual transmission and an automatic transmission
(Insight continuously variable transmission CVT).
The Honda Insight’s fuel efficiency is based predominantly on three factors: weight, engine
size, and its aerodynamic body design. The vehicles light weight is attributed to its aluminum
body which allows the use of a smaller and lighter engine that uses Honda’s VTEC system to increase
efficiency using lean burn technology .
These features allow the Insight to reach an EPA mileage rating of 61 mpg/city and 70 mpg/highway.
Advanced designs have propelled the Insight to be known as one of the most aerodynamic cars in the
auto market.
Other factors contributing to the Insights fuel efficiency include its Integrated Motor Assist, low rolling resistance tires, lightweight parts, and improvements in friction reduction to the gasoline engine.
