Ford Escape
The Ford Escape Hybrid uses a gasoline engine and electric motor to propel itself. Based on these features it is the first hybrid vehicle designed by a Detroit auto manufacturer and the first gasoline electric SUV.
The Escape hybrid targets a fuel economy of 35-40 mpg for city driving, a significant jump from the V6 gasoline powered Escape of 20 mpg, making the Escape Hybrid the most fuel efficient SUV on the road.
The Escape Hybrid infuses a specialized Atkinson cycle in its engine allowing for more mileage from each gallon of gasoline for improved efficiency. This combination generates 133 horsepower and 155 horsepower using the gasoline and electric motor together. Ford claims these features allow the vehicle’s four cylinder engine to perform similarly to its V6 counterpart.
The Escape hybrid contains all the traditional features of the conventional Escape but also includes exclusive features such as a Hybrid Energy Navigation System, 110-volt power outlet, and other aesthetic features.
Best of all the Ecape Hybrid is expected to be certified as an advanced Technology Partial Zero Emissions Vehicle (AT-PZEV).
