University of Houston Greens Campus with New Green Roof
Houston will soon find its first sloped green roof on top of the UH college of Architecture or soon to be known as Keeland Building. This unused edifice is being completely transformed into what will surely capture the attention of architectural and green enthusiasts. This project, showcasing a sustainable design will alleviate stormwater runoff, reduce the heat island and clean the air through the use of plants. The green roof is just the start of a project that is larger in scope. The project will be continued and will eventually include water harvesting, data collection and a “continuous loop” system that will contain all stormwater runoff on site.
The green roof is not only aesthetically appealing but will help improve the quality of life on the UH campus. The Keelend building will serve as a living learning center for students and faculty while providing for a healthier and cleaner community.
